I joined the Department of Hebrew and Semitic Studies in 1987. I teach first and second year Modern Hebrew. The classes take the students from the Novice level, beginning with the Hebrew Alphabet through Intermediate level of reading, writing, and conversation. The emphasis is on oral communication and contemporary Israeli culture. The students use the language lab weekly to practice conversation, and watch Israeli videos and films to learn about Israel. Once a year, I participate in the World Language Day, in which high-school students from all over Wisconsin come to U.W. I introduce them to the Modern Hebrew courses at U.W- Madison. I have also been teaching the Advanced Hebrew class in the Madison Hebrew high school, Midrasha, for more than 10 years.
